2006 Château d'Yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes

Ideal conditions for botrytis were challenged by uneven ripening. This latter demanded obsessive attention to detail during the numerous picking passes through the vineyard. Yquem's resources permit such meticulous care and inevitably have resulted in a wine which is of magnificent richness, personality, harmony and persistence. Outstanding.

2006 Château d'Yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes
Château d'Yquem

Château d’Yquem is generally considered the world’s greatest sweet wine. It defines its appellation, Sauternes, to the extent that it stands alone as the only “1er Cru Classé Supérieur” in Bordeaux. The Grand Vin is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc affected by botrytis, known as noble rot. It ages for decades and is renowned for its elegance and complexity. This is now complemented by a fine dry white, Y d’Yquem, more than a match for the great wines of Graves.
