2024 Château Montlandrie, Côtes de Castillon

2024 Château Montlandrie, Côtes de Castillon

New release

A blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon this is a sinewy and sapid style of Montlandrie with aromas of dark cherry, violets and black tea. The palate is fluid and energetic with a little wild herb note and fine grained, supple tannin. Bright, tense, and will of energy and charm the finish is long and saline with excellent focus.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Montlandrie was picked between September 26 and October 5 and matured in 42% new oak. This has a more low-key bouquet than the Les Cruzelles with tightly wound black plum and tertiary aromas. The palate is more expressive with smooth tannins and a keen line of acidity, though it is more linear on the finish than the aforementioned Lalande-de-Pomerol. Still, this should drink well for eight to ten years.

The 2024 Montlandrie is a potent, deep wine with strong Cabernet character. Dried herbs, licorice, menthol, lavender and blue/purplish Merlot fruit all race across the palate before Cabernet Sauvignon tannins come alive to frame the potent, explosive finish. Superb.
