2022 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan

2022 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan

Tasted April 2022. Very Cabernet-driven this year with cassis, smoke, graphite and firm, open and delineated tannins in a medium-bodied frame. There's plenty of juicy black fruit on the palate, then fresh saline notes and woody herbs on the finish.

Tasting notes

Cabernet dominant in its character, with intensity and black pepper spice, edges of eucalyptus and mint, showing tannic grip and power than makes it a real entry into the1st wine, and very different in character from Les Hauts de Smith in the vintage. Fabien Teitgen technical director. Any water used for irrigation of young vines is from their own water recycling system.

A more straight, focused, structured wine, the 2022 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot brought up in a mix of new and used oak. It's a powerful, medium to full-bodied, structured Graves offering classic darker, almost blue fruits, some violet, floral, and graphite nuances, fine yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. It's another clearly outstanding wine from this team.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the 2022 Le Petit Haut Lafitte possesses a delicate yet perfumed bouquet of cassis, plum, blueberry, dark berries and hints of flowers (violet and lilac). It’s medium-bodied, fleshy, lively and charming, with an elegant yet fresh finish.

Medium-bodied with lovely berry, cherry and hazelnut character. Chocolaty. Juicy. Friendly and bright rounded tannins. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot.

The 2022 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte, the château’s Cabernet Sauvignon-based second wine, is gorgeous. It shows all the signatures of its big sibling in a more accessible style that will require minimal cellaring. Dark-toned fruit, mocha, cherry, plum, grilled herbs and licorice are nicely pushed forward. In a word: gorgeous.
