Montaiguillon’s 2020 is another resounding success, continuing a string of excellent vintages at the estate. It is a deep ruby colour with notes of spiced plums, cassis and blackberries on the nose. There’s a savoury, graphite note woven through the juicy, sumptuous palate. Its rounded tannins are already integrated with the plump fruit, and the finish has a fresh, balanced length, the likes of which you’d expect from wines with much bigger price tags.
Rather light with berry, some chocolate and firm tannins. Medium body. Medium finish.
The 2020 Montaiguillon has one of the appellation’s more understated bouquets, perhaps due to a little reduction that it could not shake off. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit and fine acidity, and what it lacks in length is compensated by freshness. I suspect that the aromatics will open by the time of bottling and this will end up a fine Montagne Saint-Émilion.
