Tasting notes

The 2015 Chateau Olivier offers vivacious red cherry and crisp strawberry fruit on the nose, biding its time, gently unfolding in the glass until it takes full flight. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and smooth wild strawberry and raspberry fruit, laced with cedar and a pleasant saltiness. This is one of the best Château Olivier reds in recent years, thanks to its greater depth and harmony. Laurent Lebrun has done a great job here.

Château Olivier

Château Olivier was once the hunting ground of noblemen in the Middle Ages, and rumour has it that the Black Prince frequented the woodland lodge to shoot game in the surrounding forests. While the château still stands proudly today, and is a protected monument, it is its Cru Classé wines which now attract attention. It is one of just six châteaux allowed to make red and white wines classified under the Graves heading. There are 55 hectares of vines and the soils, which have been meticulously geographically mapped out by its owners, the Bethmann family. These soils are well suited to growing both red and white varieties, with red grapes making up around 90% of the plantings. Under the guidance of Technical Director, Laurent Lebrun, the estate makes five wines, three red and two whites.
