2015 Château Haut-Simard, Grand Cru St-Emilion

The 2015 Château Haut-Simard is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc and 60% Merlot, from one of the region’s great families, the Vauthiers (also of Château Ausone). This is beautifully perfumed, with fresh violets, plum fruit, and lick of spice on the nose. The palate is sumptuous but not overpowering, with lovely savoury tannins, and a long, mouthwatering finish. This is a brilliant right-bank Bordeaux, from a great vintage for the region.
