2013 Château Branaire-Ducru, Cru Classé St-Julien
St-Julien proved to be one of the most consistent left bank communes this year, with those closer the Gironde performing better than those further west - so it is with Branaire-Ducru, located at the southern end of St-Julien neighbouring Ducru-Beaucaillou. Pure cassis with a subtle menthol note on the nose, the palate is dominated by red currants and dark chocolate with hints of exotic sweet spice on the finish.
