2012 Château L'Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol

Pomerol has produced some real stars of the 2012 vintage, owing to the huge success of Merlot. The blend for L'Eglise-Clinet is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Denis Durantou told us that 3% press wine was used for the blend, but rather than pressed the grapes were ‘very gently pushed together’ in order to avoid overextraction. Cassis, cigar box and a subtle menthol note can be found, together with pure fruit expression, soft round tannins and a lingering and elegant finish. Tremendous stuff.
