2005 Balestard La Tonnelle, St Emilion Grand Cru
This 10.5 hectare Grand Cru Classé property dates back to the 15th century and lies on the famous limestone plateau of St-Emilion. Ripe notes of violets and blackcurrant jam are balanced by toasty oak and hints of pencil lead while the palate has tension and great persistence. 2005 was a sensational vintage for St-Emilion and this serious effort is just beginning to drink but will keep very well.
