2005 Clos St-Martin, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion
Clos St.Martin consists of a miniscule vineyard situated behind Château
Canon It is owned by the Reiffers family and run by Sophie Fourcade,
along with Châteaux Les Grandes Murailles and Côte de Baleau. The
wine is made under the supervision of oenologist Michel Rolland. The
2005 Clos St.Martin is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc,
10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged entirely in new oak barrels.
Deep in the glass, with fresh, inviting aromas of deep cherry and dark
plum, with a toasty vanillin edge from new oak. There is a lovely sense of
vibrance from the outset, gentle mouthfilling fruit of damson, plum and
a little blackcurrant. The oak seems well-absorbed on the palate, which
shows a fine structure with well-defined tannins and a marked mineral
vein. This possesses fine length and plenty of appeal. Very good indeed, but very limited availability.
