Under the same ownership as Château Léoville-Poyferré, Le Crock has delivered a very good price/quality ratio over the last three or four vintages. Didier Cuvelier’s team have refined the winemaking at this 33 hectare estate and now Le Crock is delivering the quality that one would associate with such a well-positioned Cru Bourgeois, after all Le Crock nestles in behind Château Cos d’Estournel and no vast distance from the Gironde.Aromas of toast and ripe black cherry emerge from the glass, with a fragrant, peppery nuance. The palate shows plenty of appeal, with succulent dark stone fruit and cherry to the fore in a mid-weight frame. There is a lovely sense of freshness; gentle textures and good underlying tannic structure here. This is a well-poised ripe St.Estèphe that exhibits a fine sense of balance for its level.
