2005 Château Canon La Gaffelière, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion
The 2005 incorporates a healthy proportion of Cabernet Franc, namely
35%, as well as 55% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep and
intense in the glass, this is near opaque. The nose offers characters of
damson and cool, ripe blackberry with notes of toasted oak. The palate
is appealing, glossy and layered, with a fine mouthcoating quality. There
is a pleasing volume of expressive fruit here, notes of lush dark stone
fruit to the fore, and mineral qualities become apparent to the finish.
A classy, surprisingly subtle example.
