In this vintage the grand vin represents 50% of the château's production. Half the blend is aged in new barrels, the other half in barrels that have been used for one previous vintage. When asked to draw a comparison, Gildas d'Ollone, Director of Wine at Pichon-Lalande alluded to 2000, 1996 and even 1986, commenting that it represented a synthesis of all three!
