2005 Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan

2005 Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan

In this vintage La Mission comprises 69% Merlot, 30% Cabernet
Sauvignon and the remaining 1% is Cabernet Franc. Very dense in
appearance, certainly opaque. The aromas here reveal blackcurrant and
mulberry, hedgerow fruits. The palate shows a lovely core of tightlywound
fruit in a similar vein, with a complex leafy edge, layered and
refined but certainly expansive. The concentration impresses as does the
balance. The tannins are fine and well-veiled by the creamy-nuanced
fruit. There is an earthy mineral quality here too and a lasting impression
of ripe fruit. Terrific length – a very fine La Mission. Drink 20 – 35
