2003 Château Calon-Ségur, Cru Classé St-Estèphe

One of the stars of what proved to be an exceptional vintage for St.Estèphe, Calon-Segur has excelled in recent vintages, going through what can only be described as a purple patch. Somewhat more flamboyant than Calon-Segur from cooler vintages, yet this is a wine that has retained its trademark elegance and refinement despite the intense heat of 2003. Comprising 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, this possesses great colour and offers a bouquet of black fruits. Well-balanced and broad-shouldered with plenty of smooth ripe fruit. A substantial wine with a solid structure, this is excellent St-Estèphe. Robert Parker Score: 94 points
