Zwartwater Estate
Zwartwater is the new brand from the famous Lammershoek farm, based in Swartland’s Paardeberg region, a site which became foundational in the early days of the Swartland wine revolution. It’s a site of real historic importance, with centuries of quality winemaking history, and steered by the vision of new owner Stefan Johannes, Zwartwater is destined to become one of the future greats of the Swartland wine scene. It’s already making big waves.
This land is home to one of the oldest vineyard sites in South Africa, where vines have planted since 1719. It is this wealth of old vine material – it holds the oldest block of Chardonnay in the country, planted in 1981 – that makes the wines made here so very special.
Stefan himself writes, ‘Zwartwater seeks to embody, in wine, the highest potential of what Lammershoek’s promising fruit can yield, and in philosophy, a spirit of surrender when the pivotal moments come.’
