Johannes Hasselbach took over the family domaine (which bears the name of its 1890 founder, Carl Gunderloch) a few years ago, with his father Fritz moving into the background, but remaining ever-present to help his son. This sixth generation winemaker has had sole responsibility since Fritz sadly passed away in December 2016, so 2017 was Johannes’ first vintage flying solo. Since then he’s produced a remarkable range of wines each vintage in their smart corner of Gunderloch. Sharing many plots with the famous Weingut Keller, whose wines sell for many times the price, Gunderloch offers access to this great terroir, without the price tag.
