More about Rocche Costamagna

Charming Alessandro Locatelli has run the estate of Rocche Costamagna, situated in the fairytale-like hamlet of La Morra, since the mid 1980s. But its history stretches back a lot further, all the way back to 1841, when Luigi Costamagna was first given permission to sell the wines produced in his vineyards.

Like for so many Italian domaines, the mid-twentieth century was a struggle. Many of the estate’s vineyards were sold off. They only produced wine for the family. Only in 1960s did Alessandro’s parents restart the property’s commercial operations.

Since taking charge over 25 years ago, Alessandro has upped quality in the vineyards and winery, making this one of Barolo’s aziendas to watch.

It receives consistently impressive scores from the critics, combined with remarkably reasonable prices. Rocche dell’Annunziata is Alessandro’s best wine, from one of the very best sites in La Morra: a plot shared with such illustrious names as Roberto Voerzio.
