More About Pieropan

Pieropan have been situated in the heart of the village of Soave since 1880, and now make the best white wines in the commune. They purchased La Rocca vineyard in 1978, a stunning south-west facing site in the shadow of Soave’s 10th century castle. It’s a site famed for the ripeness the grapes attain, and the expressive perfume of their wines.

Soave may be better known as a staple of pub wine lists, but the best wines, such as those in the hands of the Pieropan family, made purely from the Garganega grape, challenge the world’s finest whites for intensity, complexity, and ageworthiness.

And these wines do age with the best. Jancis Robinson recently undertook a tasting of Pieropan’s wines reaching back into the 1980s. If there were a white Grand Cru of Italy, then La Rocca from Pieropan would lay serious claim to such a title.
