Behind the creation of this micro négociant is vigneron at heart, Bertrand Gautherot, and Meursault-trained winemaker, Benoît Doussot. Clandestin, French for ‘hidden’, was born from the belief that the lesser-known parcels of north and west facing vineyards near Buxières-sur-Arce were hidden gems. Trusting the cooler climat and its subsequent slower maturation to produce exceptional grapes with more complex, intense flavor profiles. Celebrated for their Burgundian instincts, this dynamic duo, have wooed champagne purists with their attention to detail and passion. And of course, their exceptional, expressive champagnes, not least of all their Boreal Blanc de Noir and Austral Pinot Noir. With a focus on community and respectful viticulture, Clandestin buy grapes from a growing number of local farmers and focus on biodynamic practices to create their exquisite champagnes.
