Jean-François Mérieau
Jean-François Mérieau is behind some of the most sought-after and delicious wines from Touraine in the Loire Valley. Although a region famed for its production of Sauvignon Blanc, Jean-François' range includes red, white and sparkling wines all of which serve to highlight the diversity of his soils and his skills as a winemaker. He is the fourth generation to head his family estate, taking over in 2000. For the past two decades he has painstakingly farmed his 35 hectares of vines, some of which are over a century old, in Loir-et-Cher. He works the land organically, ploughing between vines and hand harvesting. His vineyards are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cot, Pineau d’Aunis, Gamay, and Chardonnay and span the fertile hillsides which flank the left bank of the Cher River. The resulting wines are effortlessly drinkable and serve to showcase the style of the Touraine appellation.
