Domaine Marc Sorrel has 2.55 hectares of superbly sited parcels on the legendary hillside of Hermitage in the Northern Rhône. Patriarch Marc Sorrel has now handed the reins to his son Guillaume, who completed his first solo vintage in 2019. The Sorrels have Hermitage in their blood. The family can trace their history here back to 1893 and Marc Sorrel has been at the helm since 1982. Now it is the next generation's turn, and Guillaume’s wines are every bit as fine as his father’s. He has risen to the challenge of working the vineyards in a warming climate, making his Syrahs with 100% whole bunch fruit and very little new oak and his reds are profound, structured and powerful. Le Gréal is the flagship wine and the pinnacle of the estate. It comes from 100-year old Syrah vines, farmed organically, in two of the Hermitage hillside’s greatest spots. 90% comes from Le Méal, with the rest coming from Les Gréffieux. His whites, made from 100% old-vine Marsanne, are rich and waxy.
Dedication in the vineyard and traditional methods in the winery lead to wines which are consistently impressive.
