Domaine Le Clos des Cazaux
Domaine le Clos des Cazaux makes some of the most complex and delicious wines in the Southern Rhône. The beautiful domaine faces the rocky slopes of Les Dentelles de Montmirail in Gigondas and is run by brothers Jean-Michel and Frédéric Vache. Together, they organically farm 16 hectares of prime Gigondas vineyards, plus a further 22 hectares in Vacqueyras. Their success is an enviable combination of old-vine parcels, a conscientious approach to winemaking and their atmospheric 11th century cellar. Most of their old-vines reds are made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, while the whites centre around Clairette, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, all of which benefit from the warm, drying effect of the Mistral wind and yield fruit that makes some of the most luscious, well-priced wines in the region. Long maceration, extended élevages and no new oak give the wines their appeal, making these full-bodied Southern Rhône classics some of the best value wines we know.
