Domaine La Barroche
Domaine La Barroche has a long history in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Under the leadership of siblings Julien and Laetitia Barrot, it is now regarded as one of its top estates. But it has only recently been seen as a front-runner in the appellation despite a history dating back to the 1400s. It was purchased by the Barrot family, who have made it one of the most successful estates in the Southern Rhône. 15-hectares of well-placed vineyards, including some hundred-year-old Grenache vines combined with Julien’s intelligent, non-interventionist winemaking are the successful formula behind the range. Julien grows traditional Rhône varieties: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Clairette but also a few forgotten ones, Terret Noir and Clairette Rose. Julien’s perfectionist mindset also takes him outside of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, to the lesser known Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, just to the south, where he makes a wine unconstrained by any of Châteauneuf’s restrictions, called Liberty.
