Domaine du Closel

The family-owned Domaine du Closel delicious white wines are made from Chenin Blanc grown in the Loire Valley appellation of Savennières. It is run by Evelyne de Pontbriand, one of the wine world’s most charming characters. Having initially trained as a teacher, she took control of the family domaine following her mother’s retirement in the early 2000s and her Loire wines are going from strength to strength. Her mother was president of the appellation, a role that Evelyne herself has since taken on. Marrying viticultural tradition with dynamic modern practices, her wines have gained her a firm following. The estate is managed biodynamically, and Evelyne’s extensive soil studies have given her great insight into her 15 hectares of vineyards. These are classic, benchmark Savennières; wines that demonstrate their maker’s charm and commitment to quality.
