Dominique Lafon is considered one of Burgundy’s finest winemakers, crafting some of the most celebrated Burgundies. He has two estates to his name; Meursault -based Domaine des Comtes Lafon and Héritiers du Comte Lafon, his venture in Milly-Lamartine. It is his finely crafted Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from Domaine des Comtes Lafon that define great Burgundy for many. Shrewd vineyard purchases by the original Comte Lafon as far back as 1894, including a prized piece of the grand cru Le Montrachet, mean that today Dominique has holdings in all six of the finest premiers crus in Meursault and four in Volnay all of which are farmed biodynamically. In 1999 Dominique turned his attention south to the Mâconnais. He believed - and still does - that some of Burgundy’s finest and most nuanced terroirs are found here. Starting out with 14 hectares of Chardonnay vineyards in the hills around Milly-Lamartine, he has subsequently expanded to cover 26 biodynamically-farmed hectares including more recently acquired parcels in Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé and Héritiers du Comte Lafon now offers some of the best value white Burgundy on the market. He retired at the end of 2021, and was succeeded by his daughter Léa and nephew Pierre.
