Domaine de Montcalmès
Frédéric Pourtalié trained at Grange des Pères and Alain Graillot before taking over his family vineyards at the edge of the Massif Central. Cool night air descends off the Cévennes Mountains that rise up north of the estate, and help produce wines with sweetly ripe fruit, silky tannins, and bright freshness. The wines have evident age worthiness, but their purity and elegance means they drink well from youth. Though it remains under the radar in comparison to its neighbours Grange de Pères and Mas de Daumas Gassac, this is a domaine in the ascendency, and definitely one to watch.
