Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet
Winemaker Amélie Berthaut is helping to put the village of Fixin on the fine wine map with her stylish red Burgundy. She took over her father’s Fixin domaine in 2013, and subsequently added her mother’s Vosne-Romanée-based vineyards to create one large 18-hectare domaine which has been unified under the combined label of Berthaut-Gerbet from 2015. Thanks to the amalgamation of these vineyards, she is fortunate enough to work with prime parcels spread across the Côte de Nuits, including Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, and Vosne-Romanée. Her top holdings include the grands crus of Échezeaux and Clos Vougeot. Her talents as a winemaker have not gone unnoticed and her wines are garnering a firm following. She practices far softer extraction than her father’s generation, and a shorter élévage, too. This makes for overall more approachable wines which still have that slightly wild note of Fixin in the background.
