Talented winemaker Charles Ballot took over Domaine Ballot-Millot in 2000. His ancestors began acquiring vineyards in the mid-17th century, and he is the 17th generation of his family to live and work in Burgundy. Charles has been key in driving quality at the domaine to great heights, pushing boundaries and creating wines with concentration, minerality and complexity. He works organically, follows the lunar cycle in the cellar and uses minimal new oak, preferring instead to have his wines express their unique terroirs. His 10 hectares are spread across Meursault for the most part, but he also has holdings in Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. The majority of his plantings are Chardonnay with holdings in the three great premiers crus of Meursault, including a parcel of 70-year-old vines in premier cru Genevrières. He also has just over 2 hectares of vines planted with Pinot Noir.
