Château Rauzan-Ségla, owned by the iconic perfume house Chanel, makes elegant, sophisticated Margaux, in the finest traditions of this prized commune. Its wines were once considered equal to Château Margaux but years of decline meant that at the time of the 1855 classifications, it missed out on First Growth status. Its fortunes changed when it was bought by Chanel in 1993 and winemaker John Kolasa was installed to reinvigorate the Second Growth, a task he more than accomplished. He introduced hand-harvesting, modernised the winery, increased the amount of Merlot, added a second wine, Ségla, and moved the estate towards organic farming methods. He was succeeded in 2014 by Nicolas Audebert, former winemaker at Argentine powerhouse, Cheval des Andes and today, Rauzan-Ségla is often considered the best of Margaux’s Second Growths.
