Eminent St-Emilion estate, Quinault l’Enclos, is a walled, 16 hectare vineyard in the suburbs of Libourne. Its wine producing history dates back over 200 years, but it was Doctor Alain Raynaud, who started the garagiste movement in St-Emilion, who significantly increased the reputation of the property. Raynaud, openly admired by Robert Parker, enlisted the help of Denis Dubourdieu and Michel Rolland to consult and invested in new wine-making facilities, raising the quality of the wine and its profile in the market. He sold Quinault l’Enclos in 2008 to luxury brand LVMH, who also own Château Cheval-Blanc. The winemaking team from Cheval-Blanc, led by Pierre Lurton, now also make the wine of Quinault l’Enclos and their philosophy is paying dividends. Working with the fine terroir of the vineyards, which are now certified organic, grapes are picked by hand and ageing takes place in 500 litre barrels.
