Château Mauvesin Barton
The Moulis estate of Château Mauvesin was acquired by Bordeaux stalwarts, the Bartons, in 2011. Lilian Barton Sartorius added her family name to the property and undertook a complete renovation of the whole estate. The château, winery and vineyards all received typical Barton attention to detail and were upgraded accordingly. There are 220 hectares surrounding the château, which was built as a fort in 1457 and was owned and run by the Baritault de Carpia family for several hundred years and at least 4 generations lived in the property. Today there are 55 hectares of vines consisting of 54% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc on clay, gravel and sand. Under the Bartons’ winemaking skills, critical acclaim is coming in from wine critics such as Antonio Galloni who gave the 2018 vintage a score of 90.
