Priorat is one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions. Defined by its unique slate soil, llicorella, it is home to full-bodied, mineral red wines based around Grenache. The best wines have found favour around the world, and Terroir al Limit is no exception. Lauded by wine critics, including a 100-point score by Robert Parker in 2019, their expressive range is taking the wine world by storm. The estate was started in 2001 by Dominik Huber and Eben Sadie with just a handful of old Garnacha (Grenache) and Carignan vines which they rented from the illustrious Perez family of Mas Martinet. Their first vintage, Dits del Terroir, was released, and from these humble roots, their vision and ambition grew. They added more vines and expanded into nearby Montsant DO, focussing on vineyard health by farming organically and biodynamically. Improving the quality of their grapes, switching to whole bunch fermentation, and using large oak barriques has resulted in a hugely appealing style of Priorat. Dominik has a Burgundian approach to his winemaking, classifying his wines as crus, villages or regional and his wines have taken on a cult-like status. Although Eben has left to pursue ventures in South Africa, the ethos of Terroir al Limit remains unchanged and these are some of the most expressive wines from Priorat you will find.
