The 2024 Vintage Port Declaration

The 2024 Port Vintage benefited from a return to more classical Douro conditions, following several years of heatwaves and erratic rainfall.

The winter of 2023/24 brought consistent rainfall, while mild temperatures and an early budburst in March set a promising start to the season. Spring and early summer remained cool, with well-timed light rains supporting healthy vineyard growth. From July onward, a long dry spell encouraged steady ripening, with warm August days and high night temperatures putting some stress on the vines. Crucially, cooler conditions in late August and September allowed grapes to achieve full phenolic maturity, resulting in very attractive fruit from Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, while later-ripening varieties like Touriga Franca and Tinta Cão benefited from additional hang time. The combination of field blends and co-fermentation has produced Ports of notable complexity, freshness, fine tannins, and excellent acidity.
