2006 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Cru Classé Sauternes

2006 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Cru Classé Sauternes

“Medium gold with honeyed orange marmalade notes and other assorted citrus and rich, full-bodied flavors, this wine has an unctuous texture, and while the viscosity is high, the acidity is adequate for balance and harmony. This is a big, bold, impressively endowed wine to drink over the next 20+ years.”

91 Points Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

The history of First Growth Lafaurie-Peyraguey is as convoluted as the wine is consistent. Starting life as a 13th century fortress, the first vines were planted in the 1600s by Sieur Peyraguey and it passed through several hands until its modern day owner, Silvio Denz purchased it in 2014. Significant investment from the 1990s onwards has resulted in a modern and appealing Sauternes which places its emphasis significantly on quality. Only the best vineyards are used to make the sweet superstar, which means that Silvio only deems about 18 hectares of his total 36 good enough for his Grand Vin. He has also given his wines a new look, with an engraved logo added to the bottle paying hommage to René Lalique’s ‘Femme et Raisins’ glass engraving. A modern winery, a hotel on site (also aptly named Lalique) and a commitment to the long term future of Lafaurie-Peyraguey ensure that this Sauternes has a great future ahead of it.
