Riesling
Universally adored by members of the wine trade, criminally overlooked in the wider world, Riesling is a grape variety that shows its origins clearly, whether from the steep slopes that overlook the River Mosel, Alsace’s picture-perfect hills, or the rolling scenery of Australia’s Clare Valley. It can be made into wine ranging from very dry all the way to sumptuously sweet, and has a remarkable ability to develop as it ages. It is surely up there with the greatest white varieties of all.
