Grüner Veltliner
The most planted grape in Austria, this late ripening white variety relies on this country’s long, sunny autumns and steep slopes to produce its best. Typically dry but with some excellent sweet wines produced, it tends towards a spicy, peppery, mineral character. The finest Grüner Veltliners from regions including Wachau, Kamptal and Kremstal have a wonderful potential for aging, and those patient enough will be rewarded with wines that rival White Burgundy for complexity and impressiveness.
