With a wine history that is simultaneously very long and very short, South Africa’s wines are fascinating. The first vines were planted in the Cape in the 17th century, but we have only seen the real development of the industry since the end of Apartheid in the early 1990s. South Africa has an amazing range of climates and soils and some of the world’s most dynamic and talented winemakers at its disposal. It is possibly now the most exciting wine producing country on the planet.
