Sud Ouest Wine
Something of a forgotten wine region, there are gems to be sought out as France reaches the foothills of the Pyrenees, before it turns into Spain. Bergerac and Saussignac mirror their neighbour Bordeaux, whilst Jurançon and Irouléguy produce excellent sweet wines. Rich and hearty reds, meanwhile, are found in Malbec’s traditional home of Cahors and in the Tannat-based wines of Madiran. The South West may require a little exploring, but with an inquisitive spirit you will be richly rewarded.
