2023 Château Moulin St-Georges, Grand Cru St-Emilion

2023 Château Moulin St-Georges, Grand Cru St-Emilion

Tasted April 2024. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Red and black fruit with subtle vanilla and a creamy texture on the palate. It finishes with more spice and bramble, with silky tannins.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges emerges from a small, 7-hectare property in front of Ausone. The richer side of the year comes through in the wine's dark blue/purplish fruit profile, lavender, licorice and spice notes. There's a bit of tannin here, but élevage should help this come together. The Moulin Saint-Georges includes 100% new oak, quite a statement of intent at this level.

The 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges was picked from September 21 to 29 and matured for 18 months in new oak. The élevage shapes this Saint-Émilion nicely. It’s a little woody at first, but that dissipates nicely with a few swirls of the glass, revealing a refreshing, marine-influenced bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, quite a sensual and fleshy Moulin Saint-Georges, though the new oak is quite vocal and dominates the finish. There’s good potential here, but I would like more terroir to come through once in bottle.
