Baron Philippe de Rothschild / Robert Mondavi
Critic Score
98.5/100
2018 Opus One, Mondavi/Rothschild, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14%

The 2018 Opus One is an elegant expression of this iconic wine, with silky tannins and lifted floral perfume on the nose. There's tons of finesse and aromatics throughout and it has a refreshing medium-bodied quality, with some earthy, truffle hints beginning to emerge with some time in bottle.

Young: 2026 - 2050
N/V Overture Opus One (2023 Release), Mondavi/Rothschild, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14%

Overture is the second wine of Opus One and is a multi-vintage blend. This is the ideal way to experience this iconic estate sooner after bottling. This year it's got considerable richness with the usual plush dark fruit character and creamy vanilla complexity.

2019 Opus One, Mondavi/Rothschild, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

The 2019 vintage from the legendary collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Mouton-Rothschild is an absolute delight, showing to full effect the restrained power and vibrancy that comes from both influences. This vintage is a more textural, structured wine, with potential to develop beautifully in bottle. Alongside dense dark berry fruit is a lifted floral tone and subtle earthy notes.

Bibi Graetz
Critic Score
96/100
2021 Testamatta, Bibi Graetz, Tuscany Red | Still | 13%

The 2021 Testamatta is sourced from various hilltop vineyards with a bit of altitude providing some coolness to this warm vintage. The philosophy here is to make transparent, approachable wines, so techniques avoid anything that might create too much concentration in the final wine. There's a savoury, earthy element to the wine that brings that approachable, gourmand feel they are looking for, and the fresh black cherry fruit and violet, rose petal complexity builds on that appetising quality. The tannins are lithe and subtly frame the wine, leaving it feeling classic and effortless in style.

Ready: 2024 - 2040
Catena Zapata
Critic Score
95/100
2020 Nicolás Catena Zapata, Mendoza Dry | Red | Still | 13.9%

Nicolas Catena is the celebrated pioneer of winemaking in Argentina, and this celebrated flagship wine has all the hallmarks of a great Argentinian red. This year it is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 21% Malbec. It's the first time ever that Franc is greater than Malbec, to compensate the warm and dry conditions. With pure blue and black fruit, layers of spice, lifted floral notes and subtle earthy notes, it's bright and aromatic, showing a deft balance of cool, chalky influence and vibrant fruit.

Château Cheval-Blanc
Critic Score
94/100
2021 Le Petit Cheval Blanc, Cheval-Blanc, Bordeaux Blanc Dry | White | Still | 14%

2021 was an excellent vintage for white wines in Bordeaux, known for their electric acidity, mineral tones and zesty fruit character. As a result, although we always expect great things for the white wine of Cheval Blanc, in 2021 they have hit new heights. The wine has a brilliant, crystalline feel on the palate, and generous, rich citrus and white peach fruit builds on the palate.

Ready: 2023 - 2038
Château de Beaucastel
Critic Score
96/100
2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin, Château de Beaucastel Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

One of the iconic wines of the Rhône Valley. In 2021 Hommage à Jacques Perrin has a lifted red fruit profile, in addition to the more typical brambley, black plum fruit flavours. There's a reticence and delicacy at this early stage, also reflecting this more restrained vintage. There's plenty of freshness and earthy tones towards the finish, and approachable, rounded tannins.

Ready: 2024 - 2044
Châteaux Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de Los Andes
2020 Cheval des Andes, Cheval Blanc/Terrazas de los Andes, Mendoza Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

Cheval des Andes is an exceptional blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon from Las Compuertas and Paraje Altamira in Mendoza. There's lots of violet, blackberry and plum here, with lifted minty, floral limestone character. There's a boldness to the fruit in this warmer year and a round feel to the tannins, before leaving a fresh, energetic finish.

Ready: 2024 - 2044
Cloudburst
2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Cloudburst, Margaret River Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

Ready: 2023 - 2040
Craggy Range
2021 Le Sol Syrah, Craggy Range, Hawke's Bay Dry | Red | Still | 13%

One of the finest wines in all of New Zealand, with a deep purple colour and an explosion of fresh black fruit on the nose. Some blueberry notes add extra aromatic complexity and there's lots more floral, violet and lavendar as it goes on. The tannins are fine and coat the palate, and the fresh acidity carries the inate richness through to a fine, long finish. One of our finest examples of Le Sol with considerable intensity this vintage.

Ready: 2024 - 2042
Favia Winery
Critic Score
94.5/100
2014 Cerro Sur, Favia Winery, Napa Valley (2023 Ex-Château Release) Dry | Red | Still

A late release from one of our favourite Napa estates. Now nearly 10 years old, it's a joy to drink, with tons of truffle, tobacco and cocoa aromas developing. There's still plenty of blueberry, bramble and cassis with Favia's trademark elegance and energy. Andy Erickson and Annie Favia are champions of this exciting and cooler part of Napa, and have created a delicious example in this 2014. The vintage was dry and long, allowing the slow ripening of their brilliant old vine Cabernet Franc.

Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Critic Score
96/100
2021 Hermitage, La Chapelle, Paul Jaboulet Aîné Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

This is a cooler expression of this famous Hermitage, with incredible length and finesse. Fresh and bright with a combination of black berry fruit and some red plum and raspberry. There's plenty of earthy spice, with light peppery notes, cured meats, and wild herbs.

Young: 2026 - 2052
Critic Score
90/100
2006 Hermitage La Chapelle, Paul Jaboulet Aîné (2023 Ex-Château Release) Dry | Red | Still | 14%

With decent time in bottle this famous Hermitage is knitted together well with a silky texture and ripe tannins. There's ripe black berry fruit, leather, woody herbs, and subtle white pepper.

Ready: 2023 - 2039
Quintessa
2020 Quintessa, Rutherford, Napa Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

Quintessa managed to avoid the devastating fires that hit Napa in 2020, and have made a wine with lovely purity of cassis and black plum, with some lift from violet and wild herb aromas. Although bold and rich, this has a silky elegance to it, with polished tannins and a long, fruit-driven finish.

Ready: 2024 - 2044
Viña Errázuriz
2021 Viñedo Chadwick, Errazuriz, Maipo Valley Dry | Red | Still | 14%

One of the finest wines from Chile, Viñedo Chadwick always has more refreshing red-fruit focus compared to its stablemate Seña. There's an almost Bordelais structure here, with grippy tannins and refreshing acidity, subtle earthy and cedar notes and a juicy, brambley finish.

Young: 2025 - 2046
