A well-known exponent of the "less is more" school of thought, Jacques Thienpoint makes tiny quantities of this extraordinary wine from 100% Merlot. Never blockbusting in style, it is terroir-driven and has been described as almost Burgundian in nature. After the expressiveness of many Pomerol during our tastings, this was almost-muted on the nose. On the palate, this is the encapsulation of elegance. Dark, velvety, violet-infused fruit, with a note of something almost sappy and mineral. This is restrained, with such a fine tannic structure as to be almost imperceptible and a backbone of pure freshness. All is held in a beautiful equilibrium.
