2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence, Domaine du Pégau

2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence, Domaine du Pégau

Equally deep in the glass, the aromas here have taken on extra expression, sweet liquorice, macerated dark cherry, and blackberry but a little more low key than the Réservée. The palate reveals a sensational texture, more roundness perhaps and the fruit more akin to mulberry, with a fine woodsmoke-infused character. Gamey, juicy and elegant – there is a fine sense of precision here and the quality of the tannin is awe-inspiring, as if they have been refined by extended time en foudre. Exceptional and a stark contrast to the more modernist efforts of many other domaines
