The core of Dow tends to come from the outstanding Quinta do Bomfim situated on the outskirts of Pinhão. With a reputation for a structured, drier style of vintage port, the Dow, normally quite backward at an early stage, was remarkably accessable in our recent tastings, certainly an indication of how appealing this vintage is going to be. In the glass, the wine has a striking purple sheen, with a classic brambly nose. Fruit, acidity and tannins are in complete balance, as are richness and firmness. A port for those of us that are patient that will drink well into this century.
