2020 Quebrada Chalinga, RETA, Limarí Valley

2020 Quebrada Chalinga, RETA, Limarí Valley

The 2020 Quebrada Chalinga is a Pinot Noir, grown 12km from the ocean in Limarí (Talinay), on granite and limestone soils. The vines were planted ungrafted in 2006. The wine is made with 50% whole bunch and was left in an infusion in an open vat. The maturation takes place in old oak barrels for 16 months. The result is full of tension, with moderately ripe fruit kept in check by fresh acidity and lifted notes of violet, citrus peel and chalk. There's a spiciness on the palate and an almost salty finish. Just over 5000 bottles were made.

This wine is now sold out. Please get in touch with your advisor or one of our team on [email protected] or 01473 313 300 for more information or guidance on an alternative.

RETA

We think Marcelo Retamal (who everyone knows as Reta) is one of Chile’s most exciting winemakers. He worked for leading family winery De Martino for 23 years, and he estimates that he’s made wine in over 350 different vineyards and wine regions along the breadth of Chile, as well as visiting wine regions ranging from Greece and Georgia to Australia and Alsace. He left in 2021 and now has two personal projects on the go. One is Reta, which he produces alongside his wife and daughters. Marcelo has used his decades of experience to access some of Chile’s most exciting vineyards, and now he makes wines from three of them. These are some of the most vibrant and Chilean wines we’ve come across.
