2017 Hemelrand Vine Garden, Chris Alheit, Western Cape

2017 Hemelrand Vine Garden, Chris Alheit, Western Cape

This wine is made from vines planted in 2010 at 360m above sea level on the Hemel-en-Aarde ridge. Chris planted them due to his admiration for the wines from Languedoc: Daumas Gassac, Grange des Peres, etc. It has a slightly smoky character, and touch of lemon curd on the nose. Good energy, and also saline - you feel the Roussanne coming through. There’s also a beautiful floral character here. It's long and fragrant, not out of place in the Mediterranean. And a touch herbal, too, on the finish. Beautiful dancing acidity and so long.
