2004 Hill of Grace, Henschke, Eden Valley

2004 Hill of Grace, Henschke, Eden Valley

Acknowledged to be Australia's finest single vineyard wine. Part of its mystique comes from the ancient vines, the famous 'Grandfathers' now approaching 140 years of age. Exceptionally low yields deliver exquisite intensity whilst artisanal winemaking techniques and careful oak ageing bring a level of structure and refinement rarely seen in New World wines from any source.

Elegant and opulent, with notes of ripe plum and blackberry, alongside a distinctive mineral note and a touch of spice. On the palate, the wine is intense, yet restrained, with fine, ripe tannins and subtle, smoky oak. Complex, with notes of cedar, pepper and vanilla, overlaying the rich, dark berry fruit character. This is a powerful, yet attractive wine, and very long on the finish.

“Purple-colored, it reveals a breathtaking aromatic array of violets, pepper, leather, smoked meat, game, blueberry compote, and black cherry. It splendidly combines elegance with power in a spicy, savory amalgam along with that extra dimension that can only be provided by old vines and a great site… 99 points” Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, Issue 181.
