Lenswood lies in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, around 50 km to the south of the Henschke's Keyneton-based estate in the Eden Valley. The long growing season of the Lenswood district provides ideal cool-climate growing conditions for varieties such as Merlot which makes for wines exuding freshness and refined fruit characters – the Abbots Prayer is no exception. Named after the Abbotts Flat, which neighbours the vineyard itself, this wine comprises a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Aromatics of plum and berry fruit dominate the nose. The palate reveals plentiful plummy, almost curranty fruit with a pleasing sense of balance and an admirably crisp finish. A cool climate feel is easily discernible on this persistent, intense palate.
