Predominately Nerello Mascalese, the grapes are sourced from the northern slopes of Etna and have great concentration and energy that can be partially attributed to their age (over 50 year old vines) In its 6th vintage, this wine is getting better and taking on more precision. Expect bright red berry fruits, ripe cherries and wild flowers. The acidity is zesty and the palate is silky and saline. There is a herbal and savoury core and the tannins are fine grained.

The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Versante Nord is understated and inward today, with musky red currants and dusty rose forming its bouquet. This impresses with soft contours and a lovely inner sweetness imparted by its vivid red fruits, as a mix of zesty acids and saline-minerals creates tension toward the close. The 2019 tapers off structured with fine-grained tannins, but also a potent staining of primary concentration that promises years of development. This sleeping beauty will need some time to reveal its charms.
