2019 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico, Piedmont

2019 Barolo Pajana, Domenico Clerico, Piedmont

Just 5,000 bottles were made of this, from 350 metres above sea level, from the Ginestra cru. This is rich, with softer and more gentle tannins than Ciabot Mentin. You feel the saline, Monforte tannins here, but without them being overpowering. This is a brilliantly balanced Barolo.

Tasting notes

Planted between 1971 and 1991, Pajana is a vineyard at slightly lower altitude compared to Ciabot Mentin, facing southeast. This 2019 is full of restraint: dill and liquorice are to the fore, then fresh violets and cherry with citrus freshness. Firm and extracted, it shows fierce, chewy, dusty tannins with refreshing acidity balancing the warming alcohol. It will evolve well.
